We’ve all been told to be careful what we watch and listen to.
But, have you ever had someone tell you that Yahweh has given you authority?
You have responsibility and choice because you’ve been given authority from the author and giver of all authority.
So with that, you can, as my spiritual grandfather (as I like to call him), says “be careful who you give you ears and eyes to.
It’s a big deal.
I used to not see the gravity of that. But I’m learning…
Everyone of us has an idea of what “normal” is.
And we have the opportunity as parents to create what normal is for our kids. (Ahem… big freakin responsibility because most of our decisions will be effected by that idea, whether we are consciously aware of it or not)
So, as we choose what we look at and listen to, we then have the choice to give it authority in our lives or not. We have the choice to accept what we are receiving as truth, or reject it as a lie.
The first step of responsibility is guarding what we watch and listen to.
I’m not just talking about don’t watch porn, or R rated movies, or clearly evil things.
I’m talking about who’s stories we watch on Instagram.
What captions and blogs we read.
What podcasts we listen to.
What friends we choose to have in our lives and making a conscious decision beforehand what level of influence we are going to allow them to have in our lives.
Feels more personal and real life doesn’t it?
I literally just closed Instagram a couple minutes ago because I was watching a friend’s story and she shared a reel who’s whole purpose was complaining about going to work and highlighting the negative reactions of people that will also be there. Now, I realize that was meant to be funny and relatable and most reels that are made are made to get likes and followers. But I don’t think that’s funny. Work is not a drudge. Neither are the people we are serving at work.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
If I continue watching things like this and accept the lie that everyone’s life and experience with work is like this, what a hopeless “normal” I’m continually building a case for in my mind.
There were a couple other limiting mindsets highlighted during my Instagram scrolling this morning and I just thought, this is not life giving. This is not reinforcing the “normal” I’m choosing to accept.
God is light.
Jesus came to bring us abundant life.
And that wasn’t just meant for Heaven. It’s meant for now.
So, I have to guard who I give my eyes and ears to.
It matters.
I’m not saying I never get on Instagram and I’m also not trying to portray a false reality of me never spending way too much time on the app..
But what I am saying is that what we watch and listen to matters.
Even when it comes to simple things like Instagram, the books we read, and even the real life conversations we involve ourselves in.
Be careful who you give you ears and eyes to.
Your life is no longer your own.
“Have you forgotten that your body is now the sacred temple of the Spirit of Holiness, who lives in you? You don’t belong to yourself any longer, for the gift of God, the Holy Spirit, lives inside your sanctuary. You were God’s expensive purchase, paid for with tears of blood, so by all means, then, use your body to bring glory to God!”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 TPT
But the choice is still yours.
Will you submit this continual, daily choice to Yahweh?
He’s very gentle and LOVES to speak into these things.
I know from experience.
And it’s different for all of us. You weren’t meant to know what all I listen to and watch, and copy that.
You were meant to ask The Holy Spirit and enjoy life with Him every day as He reveals to you who He is and then who you are.
And then you get to be you.
In the full freedom that Jesus gave us through His blood!
But that freedom is found under His authority and in the Holy Spirit.
You were made for this! – To be one with God!
So, ask Him today to start showing you what to and what not to give your ears and eyes to.
And discover Him and who you truly are in the process 🙂
